Editing Essays and Articles
The consequences of editing essays and articles is
no less important than longer works, but the time-frame is understandably
shorter and I may more easily be able to fit them in among tight
schedules.
Again, what I call 'voice' is of the utmost importance.
You and I must have a mutual regard for point-of-view and content,
but a consistent voice that is yours and yours alone must be found.
Paul Krugman does not 'sound' like Henry Kissinger.
A prolific writer myself of political essays, my voice
is my own. Yours will be essentially born of content and will not
be mine (although my slight accent may remain). I have written three
novels, all on quite widely different themes and found, to my great
joy, that they all found their own individuality. Characters that
populate them all speak with their own distinctive meter and eccentricities.
It's one of the goals, as well as rewards of writing.
You are the author and I am the editor. My job is to
- see that your voice is reproducible and comfortable for you
- edit in a style unique to your writing
- point out inconsistencies and repetitions
- make your essay or article of maximum interest to publishers
A competent editor will
- respect content
- enhance sentence structure
- break up run-on sentences and/or paragraphs
- make the essay or article more inherently readable

Let's see if we make a good team. Send me a sample
paragraph and an outline of the length and deadline for the work.
I'll get back to you with a revision.
