Copywriting and Editing Services
Take a moment to think about what you're doing when
you decide to hire a copywriter or editor. It's not complicated,
but there are a veritable blur of websites out there promising the
world.
Somewhere, between promise and disappointment, is
reality and there lies help with editing. Various services, now available
online, include a grammar check, part of professional editing.
Six valid reasons for paying someone to write copy or edit:
- Professionals (and that includes everyone from scientists to
web designers) are not often skilled with the written word. When
was the last time you dozed through a presentation or struggled
to read an academic paper?
- It's a busy world and hard enough to get the facts straight,
much less be a skilled wordsmith.
- Publish or Perish doesn't mean a valuable point of view or discovery
eed be badly presented.
- Your presentation at that conference next month has to show you
and your idea in the best light and you already know your thoughts
are better conceived than your ability to present them.
- You have an hour's worth of things to say in thirty minutes.
- It's got to stand out from the crowd. If it doesn't stand out,
you don't either.
A few more for finding just the right fit:
- The first time you used a well-known service, it was OK, but
the second was just a disaster. It didn't soud like you, because
it was farmed out to an entirely differet writer or editor. That's
because it was done by 'one of our team' and every team member
doesn't write with the same voice.
- Remember, editing is writing too and every actor knows that 'voice'
is everything.
- Business, academic or scientific writing must also grip the reader
or audience to hit a home run. Good content won't, by itself, carry
the day.
When you work with me, it's Jim Freeman on the other
end of the phone or keyboard. In a pinch, I have a single (very trusted)
friend to jump in the trench and dig, but he's a freelance writer
and ex-newspaper editor. We work off one another's rhythm.
99% of the time, you'll work just with me.
If we work well together, it's going to be a long-term
relationship. Let's do it.

Send me an idea of what you propose to have written
and a typical paragraph (if such thing exists) for a sample rewrite.
Attach it as a word document to an e-mail and please include an estimate
of the length of the work, as well as an proposed due-date. You can
generally expect a reply within several days.
