Jim Freeman - Writer and Editor
As a political commentator, Jim Freeman’s op-ed
pieces have appeared on the pages of The New York Times, Chicago
Tribune, International Herald-Tribune, CNN, The Jon Stewart Daily
Show, The New York Review and a number of magazines. He is the occasional
Cnetral European correspondent for Progressive Populist magazine.
The author of three novels, a sizable poetry collection
and nearly a thousand opinion columns, Jim has never suffered the
agonies of the blocked writer. In this, he agrees with a writer friend
that being 'blocked' is merely taking yourself too seriously.
Jim lives with his Czech wife, Misha, in Prague, where
they collaborate in the translation and editing of various works
from the Czech to the English language. In their work together as
professional editors, copy editors and copywriters, that collaboration
last year included;
-
a 750 page presentation to the Czech Ministry by a collaboration
of scientists applying for funding from the European Union. The
work was undertaken for the largest pharmaceutical research organization
ever to apply for a grant of this size from this country. It
was a major project from multiple contributors, in this case
including translation from Czech to English and was accomplished,
including editing, within a 10-week time frame.
- a 500 page history of the Liechtenstein and Deitrichstein dynasties
over the period of their influence in Europe, from the 11th century
to current times. This also included a translation from Czech to
English and was commissioned by His Highness, Prince Hans Adam
II of Liechtenstein. It was completed in six weeks.
- a 335 page technical publication, The Definitive Guide to
NetBeans Platform, concerning itself with the open-source
platform called NetBeans. The document was provided for me in
translation from the German edition. The schedule was somewhat
elastic, due to widely spread contributors. Yet the final edit
(under a certain degree of panic) met the publisher's due-date.
Part of what makes writer Jim affordable is his
location in an affordable country, but his value derives from a love of language
and those who use it. A writer himself, he is drawn to writers.

Attach it as a word document to an e-mail and please include an estimate
of the length of the work, as well as an proposed due-date. You can
